Giuseppe Attardi

La deriva della tech economy

Giuseppe Attardi è stato professore di Informatica all’Università di Pisa. In passato ha lavorato al AI Lab del MIT, al Sony Paris Research Laboratory, all’ICSI di Berkeley e allo Yahoo Research Barcelona. Ha sviluppato Omega, un precursore dei linguaggi ontologici per il Web; CMM, il garbage collector usato in Java e DeSR, un analizzatore grammaticale per diverse lingue. Ha partecipato allo sviluppo di Arianna, il primo motore di ricerca italiano, e di iStella. È fondatore o socio di diverse startup, in Italia e in Spagna. Si è occupato della realizzazione delle reti in fibra ottica del JRC di Ispra, dell’Università di Pisa e della rete nazionale della ricerca GARR. Ha promosso la diffusione di Internet in Italia attraverso la campagna No TUT per ridurre i costi di accesso alla rete. È stato responsabile della realizzazione della piattaforma cloud del GARR. Ha contribuito alla stesura della strategia italiana sull’Intelligenza Artificiale e alla nascita del primo dottorato nazionale in Intelligenza Artificiale. L’obiettivo principale delle sue ricerche attuali è di rendere i computer in grado di comprendere il linguaggio umano, utilizzando tecniche di Deep Learning.

Franciska De Jong

CLARIN services for FAIR language resources

Since September 2015 Franciska de Jong has been the executive director of CLARIN ERIC. CLARIN (Common LAnguage Resources and Technology INfrastructure) is the European research infrastructure that has the objective to provide scholars in the humanities and social sciences seamless access to digital language data and processing tools all across Europe. She studied at Utrecht University and did a PhD in theoretical linguistics. Currently, her main research interests are in the field text mining, cross-language retrieval, the disclosure of cultural heritage collections (in particular spoken audio archives), and e-research at large. Next to her position at CLARIN she is a full professor of e-Research for the Humanities at Utrecht University.  She is also a member of the board of the Netherlands eScience Center (since 2014), the EOSC-hub project management board (since 2018), and the executive board of ERIC Forum (since 2020). She was local co-chair of the DH2019 conference in Utrecht.
