Arriving at Pisa

By Plane

Pisa has an international airport with daily flights to London and Munich, as well as to Rome, Milan, and other important Italian cities. The timetable of incoming and outgoing flights is available at the website of Pisa airport. A number of low-cost airlines are flying to Pisa.

The airport is on the outskirts of the town, approximately 3 km from the center. You can reach the city center:

  • By PisaMover. There is brand new train service (Pisa mover) running every 5 minutes from the airport to the railway station in town. You can buy tickets from ticketing machines at the airport (2 €).
  • By taxi. Taxis are located near the “Arrivals” exit of the terminal. If there is no taxi out there, you may call the non-stop radio taxi service by dialing +39 050 541600. You can expect to be charged around 10 € for the drive to the city center.
  • By bus. Take the city bus “LAM Rossa” and get off at Piazza della Stazione (Railway Station square), which is the hub of all buses. You can buy tickets at newstand stores at the airport, from ticketing machines or on the bus (1.50 €)

By Train

Pisa’s railway station is on the line from Turin to Rome. There are many connections also with Florence. The train schedule is available at the website of Trenitalia. Recall that in Italy, before getting on the train, you must stamp your ticket by using those machines available within the station.

By Car

Pisa is near the intersection of two highways: A12 north-south (Sestri Levante – Livorno) and A11 east-west (Pisa – Florence). Pisa is also connected to Florence through the freeway called SGC Fi-Pi-Li (Strada di Grande Comunicazione). If you arrive from the north-south direction, exit at “Pisa Centro” of the A12. If you arrive from the east direction, exit either at the “Pisa Nord” of A11 or take the A12 connection and exit at “Pisa Centro”. If you arrive from the east through SGC Fi-Pi-Li exit at “Pisa Nord-Est”. Please note that Pisa is a small town with several pedestrian areas. Parking is a bit of a problem and most parking areas are with pay-meters. Consider parking in one of the car parks outside the city center and to reach the conference venues by bus or taxi.
